Leon Seti has returned with his latest single, the aptly titled ‘Antidote’. The Tuscan based artist’s signature style is once again shining through, with this blend of folk, electronica and pop. Through the blending of these genres, Seti achieves a level of intimacy which is accomplished through presenting himself in a vulnerable light, with lyrics full of beautiful melancholy and a wandering acoustic guitar that itself evokes truly visceral emotion.
While ‘Antidote’ is obviously born in the global pandemic, and as such has an obvious impact on the songwriting, it still attempts to salvage an ounce of positivity. As Seti details a feeling to which we can all relate, the need for human interaction, he cleverly makes such a personal experience feel universal, encompassing and challenging, all in equal measures.
This honesty is what makes Seti so relatable and admirable. When creating folk-inspired music the lyrical content is essential in the music’s success, and is such here. That, however, doesn’t mean that the musical talent is subpar. The acoustic guitar showcases talent while remaining minimalist enough to allow the vocals to take centre stage. This perfect balance again encapsulates what makes ‘Antidote’ so great- it is personal and universal, complex and simple and melancholic and positive all at the same time.
