EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: ROSS FLORA PLANTS DEEP ROOTS WITH NEW EP THE GARDEN

A Southern-Bred Collection of Songs Carved From the Mountains and Roads That Shape Us

“Drawing inspiration from classic blues legends and modern rock innovators alike, Ross crafts songs that balance heartfelt storytelling with compelling grooves and memorable melodies. His guitar work is characterized by expressive phrasing, tasteful bends, and a tone that combines warmth with edge, making every note count.” – Guitar Thrills Magazine

“Ross Flora, with a guitar in hand, Flora becomes a conduit of hypnotism, weaving an alchemic spell that prompts you to ponder just when his visage will grace the halls of rock n’ roll fame.” – A&R Factory

Nashville-based singer-songwriter and guitarist Ross Flora releases his latest EP, The Garden, featuring the focus track “The Garden,” a song rooted in memory, bloodlines, and the hard-won lessons of growth and resilience. Raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, Ross brings the grit of Southern Rock and the soul of mountain storytelling to a project that feels as grounded as the dirt he grew up turning over by hand on his family farm.

The record doesn’t just showcase Ross’ cut-to-the-bone songwriting—it also features a powerhouse group of collaborators, including Bill DiLuigi (over 300 cuts, songs on the Billboard Charts, Americana Top 100, Music Row Top 200), Dee White (touring credits with Alison Krauss and Alan Jackson, most recently released an album produced by Tony Brown), Troy Kemp (multi-Golden Guitar nominee), Emilee Allan (Scarletta), and Millard Flora (Ross’ father and longtime musical influence).

Together, they shape a collection that leans into life’s battles, victories, and second chances. “Creating The Garden has been a great experience from beginning to end,” says Ross. “I had some lines for it saved in my notes and knew I wanted to try to write it with my dad, Millard Flora. Around last Thanksgiving we finally had an afternoon to really focus on it, and it was one of the most effortless songwriting sessions I’ve ever been a part of.”

At its core, The Garden is about rediscovery—the things we lose, the things we find again, and the kid inside us who never really disappears. “It’s a song about the things we forget and learn again as we continue to live and grow,” Ross explains. “It is a reminder that the innocent child we once were is still a part of us, no matter how many mistakes we make, and is always there to find again.”

For Ross, the inspiration runs deep. Growing up on a Virginia farm, his family’s two-acre garden wasn’t just rows of vegetables–it was a teacher, a sanctuary, and the first stage where he learned discipline and faith. “Some of my earliest memories are walking through the rows in awe that life could come from a little seed in the ground the way it did, and gardening became my favorite part of our rural lifestyle,” he recalls. “When my family gave me several rows at a young age to plant whatever I wanted so long as I took care of it, that little strip of land became my most prized possession. It fueled my fascination, and was a tangible example in my life to build diligence and faith.”

With each release, Ross chooses a local cause to support—grounding his music in the spirit of giving back. During the photoshoot for The Garden, Ross met the director of Lebanon’s historic Pickett Chapel, a cornerstone of Tennessee’s Black heritage and one of the oldest African American churches in the state. Their conversation inspired him to dedicate this release cycle to raising awareness for the 12th Annual Pickett Chapel Restoration Fundraiser.

In celebration of The Garden, Ross is partnering with the fundraiser, which will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 (5:30–8:00 PM) in Lebanon, TN. All proceeds will benefit the ongoing restoration of Pickett Chapel, preserving its history for future generations.

About Ross Flora

Ross Flora is a seasoned and multifaceted singer, songwriter, and musician from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Growing up just south of Roanoke, Ross was deeply influenced by the rich traditions of R&B and Bluegrass. When asked about his earliest musical memories, he recalls, “My dad would stand me up on the back of a church pew and teach me harmony parts with the congregation.”

At age 12, Ross’s musical path took a defining turn when his dad found him playing along to a Van Halen CD—he signed Ross up for guitar lessons that very day. By his teenage years, Ross was performing at venues and festivals throughout the South Atlantic. At 19, he joined The Kings in Roanoke, Virginia, as a guitarist and vocalist.

In 2012, Ross moved from the family farm to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue music full-time. There, he built a dedicated following as a solo artist and toured nationwide as the lead guitarist and vocalist with acts such as the Johnny T Band and Smoke n’ Guns. Since moving to Nashville, Ross has played thousands of shows while continuously writing and producing his own music.

Ross’s sound blends tasteful guitar work and bold, emotionally driven lyrics rooted in Southern Rock. His influences include legends like Gregg Allman, Duane Allman, Chris Cornell, and Ian Thornley. As an English major, Ross also draws inspiration from literary giants like Emily Dickinson, Henry David Thoreau, and Walt Whitman—infusing his songwriting with rich storytelling and poetic nuance.

In 2022, Ross released his debut single, Cannonball, to glowing reviews from the Southern Rock and outlaw country communities, with fans calling him “The Golden Age of Rock ’n’ Roll with a Southern Flare.” That July, he followed up with his first EP, Shoulders of Giants, which was featured in the Roanoke Times alongside fellow Virginian Morgan Wade as an emerging Nashville talent.

In March 2023, Ross released “Part of Me,” a project recorded at the world-renowned Blackbird Studios. He also collaborated with hit songwriter Jason Nix (Lainey Wilson’s ACM Song of the Year, “Things a Man Oughta Know”) on a stripped-down version of “As the Crow Flies” for his Fall 2024 EP of the same name.

In 2025, Ross released his singles “Home Bound,” “Cornerstone,” and “Old Habits” ahead of his EP The Garden set for release September 19, 2025.

Ross continues to tour across the world as a solo artist while holding a residency at multiple Nashville venues, captivating audiences with his blend of grit, soul, and Southern storytelling.
