Producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Danny George has shared his latest single ‘Let’s Not Pretend’ – taken from his upcoming EP entitled ‘Romance In High Definition’ (out 14th May), the single encapsulates the EP’s connection to love and romance quite beautifully.
‘Let’s Not Pretend’ is a piece of joyous alt-pop, which speaks to those early moments in a relationship when sparks fly and stomach-churning excitement takes hold. Musically, a defiant piano performance lays the foundation of the uplifting track, to which a synth-wave production is mixed with his soulful vocal delivery. Lyrically it centres around themes of forbidden love and the “honeymoon period” of a new relationship, and a romantic addiction that cannot be pushed aside. Danny explains:
“The chords for this song came to me one day around the time I had just met someone new; I was very infatuated and wanted only to be with that person. Later on that same day I was waiting for my bus home, listening to the chords I had written earlier and the lyrics flew out of me.”
‘Let’s Not Pretend’ further develops the narrative of ‘Romance In High Definition’, as it takes centre stage of what Danny calls ‘HD Romance’. It follows previous singles ‘We’re Young’ and ‘Thinking Out Loud’ which were championed by Soundcloud, picking up several of their official ‘Fresh Pressed’ playlists as well as other media support such as C-Heads, Songwriting Magazine, StubHub and a host of Hype Machine blogs.
