Indonesian pop superstar Afgan makes his first global foray with “say i’m sorry” – which marks his debut with iconic US label EMPIRE as part of a huge international deal.
Honing his vocal prowess and sharpening his arsenal of instinctive songwriting over the years, Afgan’s simmering synth-led “say i’m sorry” is produced by Grammy-nominated Tha Aristocrats (Chris Brown / EXO / BoA) and retains his signature, slow-burning noughties R&B sound while adding a modern twist.
Explaining the meaning behind “say i’m sorry”, Afgan shared: “say i’m sorry speaks about a moment when you realize that you’ve taken someone you love for granted. Although you can’t rewind the time, you can’t help but reminisce about the good times and how much you loved this person. I’m hoping what people get from this song, is through the heartbreaks and pain is when we learn and grow to become a better human being, and that regret is there to teach us a lesson.”
Raised on soul legends like Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston and Brian McKnight, Afgan – born Afgansyah Reza – has established himself as one of Indonesia’s biggest stars since his debut album, Confession No.1, dropped back in January 2008. During his career, Afgan has scooped almost 60 illustrious music awards and amassed a whopping 17M+ followers on social media; in 2019 alone, Afgan racked up over 44M+ Spotify streams across a staggering 79 countries.
Firmly securing his stature in the Asian music scene with a string of sold out concerts across the continent in the last few years, Afgan now aims to bring his powerhouse vocals to a worldwide audience, on the precipice of joining other Indonesian contemporaries like Rich Brian and NIKI.
With so much more coming in 2021, Afgan is surely poised to make waves all around the world.
