The much anticipated fourth studio album ‘Souvenir’ by rising star Irene Skylakaki is ready to be unveiled, released via Greek indie label United We Fly. Following a string of successful singles, including the dazzling title track ‘Souvenir’, we now are invited to hear the other breathtaking songs which comprise this record. With airy melodies, soft percussion and Irene’s celestial voice, this alternative-folk album offers deeply personal lyricism and an original, refined sonic signature.
Speaking of her new record, Irene says: “We had a lot of musicians and friends contributing their talent over the years and the album lacks homogeneity in sound but is connected through a deeper cause: recording individual songs that we are happy with irrespective of their style. During the lockdown, I had to leave London and come back to Athens, so I worked on a few songs remotely with Scottish musician, friend, and producer Iain Gordon Smith. This was also a different experience and I’m really happy with the outcome. Overall while this is my fourth album, it feels more like my first one, as my involvement in every little detail was much deeper. I believe it’s a good music ‘photograph’ of where I stand at the moment and I’m excited to share it.”
Hailing from Athens, Irene has released three albums to date, receiving much success. Her debut single ‘In the Light’ topped the Greek iTunes charts, and her songs have been featured in both TV commercials and film soundtracks. As well as collaborating with some renowned musicians on her records, she has performed support slots for artists such as Macy Gray, Jessie Ware and Daughter. Listening to ‘Souvenir’, you cannot deny that Irene Skylakaki is destined for greatness.
