The annual John Lewis Christmas advert has been unveiled: a moving look at Elton John’s legendary musical career.
The advert kicks off with an appearance from the iconic singer himself playing the opening notes of his 1971 hit, ‘Your Song’ on a piano.
The 80-second advert, named The Boy and the Piano, recreates Sir Elton’s most iconic performances.
The Christmas link seems tenuous at first, but as it comes to an end we are shown a young Elton on Christmas morning opening a piano, showing how one Holiday gift kick-started his career.
Discussing the advert, the ‘Tiny Dancer’ singer said: “The John Lewis Christmas campaign has so many warm memories for me and my family. It’s been a lovely opportunity for me to reflect on my life in music and the incredible journey I have been on. The ad is absolutely fantastic and I’ve truly loved every minute of being a part of it.”
Ahead of the adverts release, rumours of how much the singer had been paid for his involvement with the campaign made their rounds.
The star was rumoured to make a cool £5m from the clip.
John Lewis has called this figure “wildly inaccurate”, but are yet to disclose Sir Elton’s fee or the advert’s overall budget.
The advert makes it’s television premiere tonight at 9.15pm on ITV.
