5 musicians who turned out to be terrible actors

Bridging the gap between cinema and music is something that often happens in showbiz, but sometimes bridges are better left unbuilt.

It’s not out of the ordinary to see award winning musicians try their hand at being the next Robert De Niro or Angelina Jolie, but sometimes their performances fall short of the mark.

Although we love these musicians dearly, it’s probably best they stick to what they’re great at. Follow on below to a journey of movie mishaps and less than credible performances.

Mick JaggerFreejack (1992)

Based loosely on Robert Sheckley’s novel Immortality, Freejack is an ‘so bad it’s almost good‘, ridiculous sci-fi movie which enlisted Jagger as the antagonist. Although one of the most iconic rock & roll stars of all time, Jagger’s performance is close to laughable as he reads out lines like a robot looking at a cue card.

All of the Spice GirlsSpice World (1997)

The plot of the story sees the Spice Girls zip around London in their luxurious double decker tour bus embarking on various adventures and performing for fans. Trying to escape the fame and fortune, they’ve accumulated the film ironically ends up with them performing the biggest show of their career at Albert Hall. Right. Apart from the bad script, acting and relentless cameos, the iconic girl group who changed the face of pop certainly changed the face of flop for acting.

LL Cool JDeep Blue Sea (1999)

Although Deep Blue Sea was actually a pretty decent movie, featuring an epic monologue from Samuel L. Jackson before (spoiler alert) a shark jumps out of the water and gobbles him up, LL Cool J‘s character fell by the wayside. Whether it was the cheesy one liners or the predictable delivery, it’s safe to say Cool J’s acting career is now shipwrecked somewhere next to the Titanic.

Mariah CareyGlitter (2001)

Glitter follows lead character Billie Frank, played by Mariah Carey, who is discovered by Julian ‘Dice’ Black (Max Beesley), a nightclub DJ who helps kick start her solo career. Throw in a romantic relationship between the two, and Billie’s rise to fame, and you have the plot line in a nutshell. The film earned several Golden Raspberry Awards including Worst Picture, Worst Screen Couple, and Worst Actress. It’s safe to say Mariah should stick to the high notes.

Jennifer LopezGigli (2003)

In Gigli, the Martin Brest directed mobster rom-com, J. Lo and Ben Affleck‘s off-screen relationship finally made its way onscreen. No one in the film has been praised for their performances and whilst not the worst actress Jenny from the block’s performance was pretty below par.
