RAYE hits out at societies expectations of women in ‘The Line’

In a bouncy and playful offering produced by FRED, South Londoner RAYE hits out at the double standards of clubs, their queues, bouncers, and societies expectations of women. Check out her feisty video for ‘The Line‘ below.

Tipped by everyone from i-D Magazine, 1Xtra, Vevo and The Hunger, RAYE is one of the hottest new artists to come out of the UK. With two incredible EPs under her belt, collaborations with Nas and credits on hits for Charli XCX and Snake Hips, she’s already gaining the right people’s attention.

Talking to The Fader regarding ‘The Line‘ she said, “Going out clubbing gives you a cold dose of the expectation society has on women.

To get into a club you have to kill yourself in heels, drown in makeup with a tight dress, maybe a bit of cleavage will help you out too. Me going as ‘myself,’ wearing what I wanted, didn’t cut it. You have to fit within the boundaries and expectations put on you. Watching all these casually dressed men waltzing past me in the queue really pissed me off, so I wrote this tune.
