Audio Paak returns with ‘Fire’ via Alikoto Music Consult, capturing his Afro House sound in a refreshing and sophisticated way. Stepping into a new musical chapter with the project and building on his history in the Afrobeats space, Audio Paak continues to draw on his experiences and journey to date, channelling cultural undertones and an instinct for dancefloor dynamics. With ‘Fire’ signalling the next step in this new phase for the Producer and DJ, Audio Paak further showcases the creative direction of his project – hinting towards musical explorations that reflect a wide tapestry of influences, alongside a forward-facing vision.
As he transitions from Afrobeats creator into the more melodically and soulfully inflected landscape of Afro House, Audio Paak sets about carving his lane within this new stylistic setting. From an early childhood where music was a constant undercurrent to taking to DJing at just nine years of age, he has developed a relationship with music and his own artistry that feels deeply rooted in instinct, passion, and creative self-expression. As he develops his own approach, drawing on the ancestral sounds of African rhythms and his understanding of musical storytelling, he remains focused on his artistic development, approaching this next stage as a natural evolution and an exploration of fresh sonic landscapes.
Driven by a solid rhythmic foundation – where bouncy kicks meet shuffling percussive elements – ‘Fire’ expands into a fluid, rolling production. As layered synth progressions weave in atmospheric energy, the expressive female vocal line adds a soft warmth to the soundscape before layered vocal textures enter, carrying the track’s hook line with energy and soulful nuance. The lead arpeggiator grounds the track’s evolving momentum, as pulsing lines, grittier textures, and warm sustained pads add depth and dimension to the arrangement, keeping the track pushing forward and retaining its engaging quality.
A culmination of melodic expression and rhythmic edge, ‘Fire’ enters Audio Paak’s discography as the latest showcase of his creative direction. As he looks to channel the rich, ancestral tones of his heritage while creating music that resonates across contemporary dancefloors, the Producer and DJ continues to hone his approach: refining and expanding his signature sound while allowing his creativity to evolve through a continuous exchange of ideas and influences.
