Independent singer, songwriter and producer Cataleya Meadows returns with her second single, “SKIN IN THE GAME,” released on October 2, 2026. Blending dark alternative pop with cinematic arrangements and intimate storytelling, the track explores the dangerous relationship between ambition, obsession and the relentless pursuit of perfection.
Following the release of her debut single “MALICE” in August, Meadows continues to build a deeply personal musical world that examines the psychological complexities of identity, trauma and personal transformation. Where “MALICE” confronted buried childhood memories and the ways pain can disguise itself as strength, “SKIN IN THE GAME” explores what happens when the desire to overcome those experiences becomes an obsession in itself.
Driven by intimate verses that expand into a restless, emotionally charged chorus, the single captures the pressure of sacrificing everything in pursuit of an impossible ideal. Images of bruised knuckles, blinding stage lights and imagined realities create a sense of psychological tension, culminating in a spoken word bridge that examines the fragile boundary between control and surrender.
“I wanted to write about the point where trying to become better turns into sacrificing parts of yourself to the work. Perfection begins as something you control, but eventually it starts controlling you,” Meadows explains.
At the centre of the track is the defining declaration, “I always put my skin in the game,” a line that captures both the determination and vulnerability of someone willing to risk everything for their ambitions.
Meadows approaches songwriting through a distinctly visual process, often imagining an entire scene or narrative before developing its lyrics, melodies and chords at the piano. From there, she constructs immersive arrangements that bring those imagined worlds to life. This cinematic approach is central to “SKIN IN THE GAME,” transforming an internal struggle with perfectionism into an atmospheric exploration of performance, discipline and self destruction.
Having received early support from independent radio, music press and playlists for her debut release, Meadows is now establishing the foundations of her forthcoming album. Both singles introduce a wider body of work exploring masks, alter egos, buried memories and the identities people construct to survive.
