Born in Germany and now based in Houston, she spent her teenage years attending international boarding schools before studying Mathematics at Royal Holloway, University of London and completing a master’s degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics at Rice University. Music was never part of the original plan. After Hurricane Harvey devastated her Houston home in 2017, Ray began writing poetry to process the trauma and emotional aftermath. That creative outlet eventually developed into songwriting after she connected online with British musician Mick Matthews, who introduced her to recording, production and the wider songwriting process.
What began as a means of healing has since become a fully independent musical career. Ray records vocals from her home studio, creates vocal arrangements, manages distribution and royalty registrations, and oversees artwork and marketing, giving her a remarkable level of creative ownership. Her philosophy of “tiny person, huge emotions” is reflected not only in her emotionally direct songwriting, but also in a visual identity built around bright colours, oversized earrings and symbolic Wonder Woman inspired wristbands. After years of vocal coaching and recovering from a vocal nodule, Ray has continued to strengthen both her technical abilities and artistic confidence.
There is already evidence that her approach is resonating with listeners around the world. Ray has grown an audience of more than 50,000 monthly Spotify listeners, while her collaboration “Umbaway” has surpassed 143,000 streams. Her music has also found unexpected international traction, including in Brazil, where “How Are You” gained attention on Deezer. With a music video planned alongside Meta conversion advertising, playlist campaigns, social promotion and her first formal press campaign, “Those Two Blue Eyes” arrives with genuine momentum behind it.
For Ray, however, the numbers are only part of the story. The deeper purpose is connection. She hopes the song reaches anyone who has ever felt overlooked, underestimated or taken for granted, reminding them that strength can exist alongside sensitivity. Currently completing the Juilliard Extension Songwriting Certificate, Ray is continuing to refine her craft while looking towards future releases, intimate live performances and an increasingly international audience.
