Austin alternative rock trio Dining with Devils lean fully into thick riffs, desert-rock swagger and grunge-era heaviness on new single “The One Below.”
Built from a riff that emerged spontaneously during rehearsal, the track evolved through live jamming into a dense, groove-driven piece of alternative rock that feels raw, immediate and unapologetically loud. Crushing guitars collide with pounding rhythms and a gritty vocal performance that cuts straight through the mix, giving the song a physical weight that mirrors its darker themes.
Drawing influence from bands like Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Queens of the Stone Age, the trio channels the atmosphere and tension of 90s heavy rock while still sounding grounded in the present.
Lyrically, the single explores morality, perception and the pressure to constantly occupy the moral high ground. Rather than presenting simple answers, the band examine the contradictions that emerge when people position themselves as unquestionably righteous. Frontman James pulls from personal experiences and upbringing, giving the track an undercurrent of frustration that never feels forced or performative.
That sense of authenticity runs through the wider identity of Dining with Devils. Their approach to music feels rooted in necessity rather than image, shaped by a shared love of classic rock, grunge and artists willing to push outside predictable formulas.
With upcoming performances across Austin, including shows at Valhalla ATX, Crow Bar and Far Out Lounge, the band continue building momentum both on stage and in the studio. ‘The One Below’ feels like another step forward, something heavier, sharper and fully confident in its own darkness.
