SuMin.K releases light-hearted ‘Breezing in the Sunshine’

New York City-based violinist, composer and producer, SuMin.K has unveiled her latest, ‘Breezing in the Sunshine’. Light on its feet, expressive, it arrives as the newest addition to SuMin.K’s travel series, shaped as much by the places she finds solace in as an opportunity for others to find their own place in the music.

Blending contemporary classical with soft, simple production and touches of jazz, plucky keys and airy percussion underly the lead melody from the violin. The dynamics are articulated well, the lead melody conveying emotion as it rises and falls in both pitch and volume. It is without excess, but focuses on a warming charm throughout.

The artist explains, “‘Breezing in the Sunshine’ came from a simple idea – capturing a light, flowing, yet memorable and meaningful moment. I focused on the violin as a central voice, shaping the phrasing and dynamics in a way that feels natural and expressive, supported by piano accompaniment and subtle percussion that I also created using a selection of MIDI instruments. As part of my Travel Series, I invite listeners to experience the music wherever they are, rather than specifying a single location of inspiration. This piece reflects a sense of openness, ease, and unhurried movement, leaving space for each listener to connect their own moments and impressions to it.”

Classically trained, SuMin.K has gradually widened her approach through jazz improvisation and collaborative performance. Through these new avenues, her violin performances are still at the centre. Nonetheless, she is developing a clear artistic identity both in the studio and in live performance.
