What is ZONGA? Or better yet why is ZONGA?
Is it the direct result of their need to be loved or maybe their motivations are pure, art for art’s sake?
The live version of their debut single ‘Want More Need More,’ sees ZONGA deliver a vibrant and funky performance as they unveil this lively and empowering song.
Moving to England from Zimbabwe as a 17 year old, Farai met Dom walking to school and it wasn’t long before they were making music together in Dom’s bedroom.
Heading to Manchester after university, the duo expanded into a seven piece band and have since embedded themselves within the local scene.
The band is named after a mountain in rural Zimbabwe that frontman and rapper Farai’s grandfather used to climb as a child.
Blending rap, jazz and funk, you don’t just watch ZONGA, you feel it.
A high energy live experience that brings people together in joyful exuberance.
Taking inspiration from multiple genres, ZONGA can best be described as a cross between Sly & The Family Stone and Kojey Radical.
Following on from their debut headline show in November, recent highlights include a packed out gig at Band on the Wall and an upcoming slot at Green Island festival in July.
