Australian newcomer Darcy Thomas has returned with new single ‘To Blame’, bringing together a mix of guitar-driven bite and a polished charge. The evolving instincts of a pop artist finding their feet sees him step into a more self-assured territory, bringing together vulnerability in lyricism and bright sonics.
The track opens with a fast pulsating synth and a subtly infectious guitar melody. Pieces of the puzzle come together slowly, introducing the reverberating drums slowly as the tension in the vocals grows stronger. The slight alternative edge and contemporary pop sensibilities is very radio-ready, echoing the likes of The Kid Laroi but a unique offering nonetheless.
Darcy shares it’s “a song about betrayal, lies, and the damage that comes with being let down by someone you trusted. It captures that loss of confidence and the anger that follows when you realise you were never the one at fault. This song isn’t about telling both sides, it’s about recognising the truth and calling it for what it was. It means a lot to me because it came from a real place. I hope people who’ve been through something similar or feel the same way about someone can hear it and feel that same sense of clarity and strength.”
Behind the scenes, Darcy has been refining his talent with guidance from respected names like Greg Stace and Mama Jan Smith. Now based in Melbourne after growing up in Sydney, his inspirations come from navigating youth and what it means to be a man in the modern world.
