Phoenyx reveals sleek pop-R&B on ‘Main One’

London’s Phoenyx, dancer and music artist, has unveiled his latest track ‘Main One’, bringing a glossy neon release expressing heartbreak. As if viewing the city lights through a soft focus lens, Phoenyx blends a hazy, synth-laden mix and sprinkles it with punchy drums and melodic vocals. It’s smooth but energised, a slow-burning groove that has clean production with fantastically layered harmonies for an atmospheric finish.

In it, Phoenyx reflects and looks inward, dissecting the effect a previous relationship still carries on moving on. He shares, “Main One is about being torn between moving on and still being emotionally tied to someone who hurt you. It captures the feeling of trying to fill the emptiness with distractions or other people, but nothing replaces the connection you had with them. Even though they’ve lied and you’ve told yourself you were done, you’re still drawn back to them – still craving the comfort of their touch and the clarity they never gave you. It’s a confession of vulnerability: admitting that you shouldn’t still care, but do, and being stuck in that cycle of longing, denial, and emotional attachment.”

The blend of emotional intensity and rhythmic control speaks to his influences, but Phoenyx is setting out a unique stall. Performances are blended with his natural dance ability and the movement of the music. Entirely self-taught, there’s nonetheless a clear approach and identity. Polished and personal, one to watch in the coming year.
