Suris unveil vivid art-pop album ‘Pertinax’

Suris’ new album Pertinax is out now. Rich and colourful, carefully composed, it brings together dreaminess with thoughtful and reflective arrangements, bridging the gap between alt-pop and art rock. In thirteen tracks, the Buckinghamshire duo, Lindsey and David Mackie, deliver to audiences an emotional sweep.

Gorgeous piano lines, gracious guitars, and laced with synthesiser, there’s a nostalgic edge to the music that comes from its warmth and wisdom. It’s wonderfully brimming with life, down to its very sonic core; it seems to have a sense of acumen and acceptance with the world. Each song’s lyrics could be a poem in themselves, and are only made more poignant and memorable with the glory of the surrounding arrangement. Suris feel so at home tackling a project like this, which only makes it more charming to listen to.

The band shares, “The album title means ‘To persist, stoically’, which truly sums us up – music is deeply embedded in our life and marriage, so we can’t help but continue writing, recording and producing! With this collection, we wanted to present a diverse and surprising range of songs covering themes of persistence, longing and resilience.”

Making music together for decades, their adventures started out with a four-track cassette recorder. Along the way, life shifted the path forward, the band lost their manager, and children arrived, changing their priorities but never their commitment to art. An inseparable pair of multi-instrumentalists, they approach songwriting without ego and, through that, produce wonderful work.
