Wynona Bleach are back with a new single ‘Be Positive’, loud, sharp and the first taste of their upcoming album Animal Style. Sounding sure of themselves and leaning into weighty atmospheres and soaring moments, the band has come a long way from their 2018 beginnings.

Starting with thumping, heavily distorted electric guitar layers, the roll of the drums introduces a powerful lead vocal with distinctive harmonies that make the track sound less heavy and more ethereal, despite the roar of the chords beneath. A flash of calm in the eye of the hurricane at the halfway point, before the grunge and alt-rock boots are back on and stomping.

On the single, the band add, “When nostalgia may seem your only way to feel positive about the future, it might be best to kill your darlings. With that being said, we wanted to feature a big “Phil Collins” snare in it, so armed with the cheapest Lexicon reverb rack unit we could find (an MPX100), and without the ability to change the duration of the snare reverb, we wrote the entire song around that snare sound – that we recorded analogue. The track title is a nod to one of the band members’ blood type, and a nod to goth rock heroes of ours, Type O Negative.”

One of Northern Ireland’s most exciting up-and-coming bands, the reputation of Wynona Bleach has been steadily curated with consistent top-tier performances and nods from Alice In Chains, BBC and SXSW. They’ve performed from Reading to Russia and are now teeing up their sophomore album, which is likely to draw critical praise just like the debut that came before it.
