DomLand shows resilience on EP ‘Dipped In Black’

DomLand has unveiled the three-track EP Dipped In Black. Tender, deeply sorrowful, shaped by loss, love and healing, it brings the talent into the spotlight as she cements the legacy of another.

“This project honours my late partner, Dip Black, who passed away while I was pregnant with our son,” she explains. “Though the journey has been painful, creating this music became a therapeutic way to process grief and transform it into something lasting.”

A gentle thread tied between modern neo-soul and noughties R&B power is the core of her sound. ‘Distance’, the sensuous opener, is calm but strong, carrying the emotion through intricate guitar plucks and waves of vocalised harmony. These feelings flow towards ‘Written In Stars’, taking the heartbreak head-on in a sparse atmosphere, lead vocals followed by the keys as they climb to heart-wrenching heights. ‘Legacy’ emerges, more rhythmic, simultaneously tighter and flowing deeper, the glimmer of the instrumentation breaking through with weightless, shining results.

DomLand echoes her predecessors, but her voice is clearly her own. Vulnerable, of course, but resilient in every regard. Based in Ottawa, DomLand has performed at Canadian Music Week, RBC Bluesfest, Cranium Festival, and Sofar Sounds, her talent evident in the local scene. Dipped In Black is undoubtedly a defining moment and artwork.
