Announcing their debut album Forever for release in April, Cable Boy are providing the first soirée into the project with the single ‘Something In My Head’. The Dublin five-piece are looking to step into a bigger frame, capturing sharp focus, restless energy and intense atmospheres as they do so.

High octane forward motion from the outset, a mix of guitar propulsion and hypnotic rhythms set the tone, with an energised vocal that simultaneously backs up the energy of the instrumental whilst retaining a floating, cool exterior. In theme, the band dives into emotional detachment and survival. The sonics play into that, calm against chaos, a punchy fierceness fuzzing out.

In the band’s words, “Something in my Head is about watching and absorbing life-changing news and several atrocities every day on every single social media app and feed while feeling powerless to do anything but watch, donate and boycott.

The chorus is a response to the verse; ‘I can be cool just where I am, weather is cooler where I stand, keeping it cool, that’s who I am’ is a tongue-in-cheek comment on how we absorb these things as artists; being aware but also not really doing anything.”

The band’s evolving line-up has brought about a creative shift in recent years, leaning into a shoegaze sound whilst retaining some of the dreamy sparkle that made up their early years. Becoming a reputable live force and earning support from tastemakers, the new album could be an exciting start of upward trajectory for the group.
