AJ Yorio is stepping fully into his own voice. Fresh off a BMI Pop Award for achievements as a songwriter for other projects, Yorio has spent this year shifting his focus to his own art. The change has already produced the rock LP Gush, along with singles ‘Last Bite,’ ‘Broken Hearts,’ and now, ‘Volcano.’
‘Volcano’ feels like Yorio is releasing something he’s been keeping inside for too long. It’s emotionally exposed, driven by the kind of internal tension that refuses to hide away. Yorio describes the song as a battle for control inside your own head, and that idea is prevalent in the lyrics. They circle themes of self-sabotage, fallout and power structures collapsing under pressure.
The imagery is striking and symbolic. Kings fall, queens rise, and nothing remains fixed for long. When the chorus hits, it doesn’t resolve the conflict, it amplifies it, repeating like a thought you can’t escape. “You’re giving Hell / I know – you start / you start to feel it swell / I know / you are / you’re really giving hell.”
This isn’t a strategic release or a play for virality. It’s a personal exhale. Yorio has described the song as a selfish release, made without expectations. It’s the type
of authenticity fans love.
With ‘Volcano,’ AJ Yorio isn’t trying to control the chaos. He’s letting it flow.
