Angela Merlino introduces tribal pop with the mesmerising ‘Water Mantra’

Spanish-Italian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Angela Merlino returns with ‘Water Mantra’, the title track from her forthcoming EP, a powerful and immersive release that explores healing, identity, and transformation through sound.

Born in Galicia, Spain, and raised in Manresa near Barcelona, Merlino’s multicultural background has been central to shaping her artistic voice. With a Spanish mother and Italian father, her early exposure to music ranged from electric guitar to traditional Flamenco Canto Hondo, laying the foundation for a sound rooted in heritage and emotional depth.

Now based in London, Angela Merlino blends her Spanish and Italian roots with Tribal percussion, sound healing practices, and contemporary alternative pop. Singing in English, Spanish, and Sanskrit, she takes a fully hands-on approach to her work, composing, producing, and designing immersive soundscapes inspired by the environments she inhabits.

‘Water Mantra’ is a rhythm-led, genre-blurring track that merges Folk Tribal elements with modern pop sensibilities. Hypnotic chants, layered harmonies, and pulsing percussion create a meditative yet emotionally charged listening experience, one that feels both ancient and unmistakably current.

The EP represents Angela’s most personal work to date, confronting childhood trauma and reframing it through music as a process of liberation and resilience. As part of the release campaign, 60% of the EP’s proceeds will be donated to The Survivors Trust, supporting survivors of sexual abuse across the UK.

With Water Mantra, Angela Merlino introduces what she describes as “Tribal Pop”, a bold and intuitive fusion of rhythm, ritual, and contemporary songwriting. The release marks a defining moment for an artist using music not only as expression, but as transformation.
