CRYMWAV strike back with dark, defiant new single ‘Speak No Evil’

With Speak No Evil, CRYMWAV sharpen their teeth and bare them fully, delivering a snarling, politically charged rocker that feels ripped from the dark corners of a dystopian present. It’s a track about creeping fascism, surveillance, and the tightening grip of big tech, but delivered with enough swagger, grit, and classic-rock venom to keep the message as thrilling as it is unsettling.

From the first seconds, new drummer Pat Muzingo (Junkyard) sets the tone with a punchy, Jerry Nolan–style intro that snaps the track into motion. What follows is a whirl of CRYMWAV’s signature sound: part glam sleaze, part punk bite, part gothic theatre. The ghostly piano and harpsichord interlude, courtesy of former Damned guitarist/keyboardist Roman Jugg, injects a Phantasmagoria-era chill that elevates the song from straightforward rock to something far more atmospheric and cinematic.

CRYMWAV’s music oozes the grit of an era long gone yet refuses to sound dated. It’s the rare modern rock track that remembers how dangerous, rebellious, and confrontational the genre is meant to be.

Formed in L.A. in 2022 from the remains of glam outfit Smash Fashion, CRYMWAV is the brainchild of vocalist and songwriter Roger Deering, whose decades-spanning influences, punk, post-punk, goth, NWOBHM, Thin Lizzy, and UFO, collide to create the band’s sharp-edged identity. Deering’s time in London sparked the songwriting spree that birthed CRYMWAV, a desire to channel the spirit of British heavyweights like Motörhead, Killing Joke, The Clash, and Hawkwind. That lineage is alive and roaring in Speak No Evil.

Following 2023’s acclaimed EP 24/7 and the more recent singles Contagious and Sense of Adventure, this new track pushes the band deeper into their own fully realised universe, one of paranoia, resistance, and gritty rock-and-roll catharsis. With a full-length album slated for spring 2026, CRYMWAV are clearly building toward something big.

Speak No Evil is a warning sign wrapped in a fist-pumping, shadow-kissed anthem. It hits hard, stays memorable, and proves that CRYMWAV aren’t just reviving the rebellious spirit of classic rock, they’re updating it for a world that needs it now more than ever.
