In 2025, we’ve seen King Yanz collaborate with a host of fellow artists like Yung Fume. For his latest single, however, the Finnish-Congolese artist appears solo, delivering a smooth R&B cut with ‘No Favours’.
A soft but bouncy ambient backdrop, audiences are treated to velvety textures and perfectly produced drums. Airy keys, strong snares and very subtle strings fall behind a graceful, sensual vocal performance. The silk leans into warm R&B minimalism, but the edges are gritty, giving it that feel of fuzzy neon lights late into the evening.
In his own words, Yanz explains, “No Favours came from a place of exhaustion, but also clarity. This song is me acknowledging that. Not everything I have is up for grabs. Not everything I create has to be available. There’s a point where generosity turns into depletion, especially in creative spaces, where the line between collaboration and extraction can get blurry. I’ve had to learn that saying no doesn’t mean closing off, it means staying whole. It’s also a reminder that support isn’t something you earn through output. Real connection has to go both ways.”
The themes of energy, boundaries and making time for oneself are potent, allowing the man behind the moniker Yannik Kiswamu to give fans a reflective and rhythmic cocktail. Across his career, writing is steeped in realism, as a genre-fluid approach moves easily through hip-hop, jazz, funk and R&B, placing him at the cross point of Nordic and UK rap.
