Hailing from Lancashire, the five-piece indie-rock group Hollins are closing out the year with their single ‘What We Wish For’. With it, they bring a more emotional side to their signature sound, but still rise to an anthemic status with soaring melodies from the keys, vocals and guitar.
Vulnerability laced into modern indie and the fabric of classic Britpop, the single weaves shimmering guitars into a bright, melodic pulse that keeps the sonics uplifting even as the lyrics’ themes cut deeper. The heartbreak of drifting apart is shared in all its bittersweet disappointment and sentimentality, delivered in an atmospheric moment.
The band explains, “This song is inspired by having to find your own path after being let down by people you love, having the courage to lead your own way, and not being afraid to get out there and meet new people. Adding, “It’s a gentle reminder that the grass isn’t always greener and to be careful what you wish for”.
Hollins are based in Darwen, and draw from indie, alt-rock, funk and even flashes of rap. Releasing their debut EP Late Than Never in 2024, the group have steadily been decorated with praise, with the likes of BBC Introducing pledging their support.
