Mark Vennis & Different Place deliver another single with their boots firmly planted, a sharp, post-punk grit packaged in their latest track, ‘Empire Road’. Once again embracing their unmistakable, rough-edged charm, the band kick into gear with a rebellious spirit.
As soon as the drum fills open the music, a mix of soaring and biting guitar tones, grooving rhythms and punchy vocals fills the airwaves with jagged swagger. Vennis is leading the charge with an absorbing, direct and forward-marching vocal. Themes of power, greed and justice are wrapped in British punk tension harking back to the lineage of The Clash or The Kinks.
Explaining the track, Mark Vennis & Different Place share a comment, “Empire Road is about the victims of relentless expansion and relentless pursuit of profit, about the people left behind, chewed up and spat out by a rampaging empire.”
From Petersfield, the four-piece arrive with over a decade of experience, still proudly defiant in their chaotic charisma. Four albums and an EP have given their discography an anchor in raw storytelling and ragged, roots-punk energy. Their reputation onstage is equally rowdy, performing across the UK, France and Ireland.
