Folklore Records has unveiled a third instalment of their compilation series, once again to be released both on vinyl and digital formats. The project gathers new recordings from four artists, this time around, Frankie Archer, Michele Stodart, Cormac Nagle, and The Ocelots.

What began as an intimate pub night in Brighton over a decade ago has developed into a community hailed across the nation. Jacko Hooper, a songwriter in his own right, founded Folklore Sessions to champion great songwriting that was delivered in a pure and poetic form. The platform has gone on to great things, with a thriving venue, The Folklore Rooms, and a label, Folklore Records.

Each of the four tracks embraces a different folk aesthetic, but remains cohesive under the compilation’s banner. Cormac Nagle feels like a classic slice of folk, an old-soul presence with a nostalgic, knowing tone to his music. Michele Stodart paints an intricate, emotive portrait with steady rhythms, sliding guitars and a graceful approach to vocal harmony.

Taking up the third slot is The Ocelots, injecting a raw, unfiltered, Americana vocal into a dreamy haze of wind instruments and soft guitar tones. Frankie Archer embraces experimentation, an echoey, otherworldly interpretation of the tradition with pulsing synths and off-kilter electronic percussion.

Folklore shows the power of community, a pub night turned into a multi-faceted local institution that plays host to music seven days a week, is nothing short of an incredible success. Though the artists are each unique, they are united by a shared devotion to their craft, something which makes the music all the more charming and extends its emotional reach.
