Baby Condor capture the sweet ache of growing up on ‘Seventeen’

Dutch brother duo Baby Condor return with “Seventeen,” a tender, slow-burning reflection on time, memory, and the parts of ourselves we try to hold onto as the world rushes forward. It’s the kind of song that feels lived-in, the sound of golden light at dusk, an old photo you can’t let go of, or the quiet realisation that growing up means changing even when you don’t want to.

Self-written, arranged, produced, and recorded entirely in their self-built Mermaid Studio, brothers Nolle and Beinte Groen continue to prove their commitment to true craftsmanship. Not only do they perform nearly every element themselves, they do so using hand-built recording gear and analog textures that give their music warmth, grain, and human breath, the opposite of the glossy, digital perfection dominating much of contemporary production.

The result is cinematic and organic, a sound shaped by live strings, horns, soft drums, and shimmering guitars, all wrapped in the duo’s signature layered harmonies. The track carries the emotional subtlety of classic songwriters like Paul Simon and Harry Nilsson, while swirling with the soulful warmth of Marvin Gaye and the melodic dreamscape of Brian Wilson. Yet despite the clear lineage, “Seventeen” never feels like an imitation, it feels like a memory resurfacing.

Lyrically, the song sits in the space between nostalgia and acceptance. “The world is changing faster than anyone can keep up with,” says Nolle Groen. “‘Seventeen’ is about growing up, losing touch with the past, and still trying to hold onto what makes us human.”

That sentiment echoes in the music itself, sentimental but never stuck; wistful, but still in motion. Where some artists chase nostalgia as an aesthetic, Baby Condor treats it as emotion, something tender, fragile, and deeply human. “Seventeen” doesn’t try to recreate the past; it remembers it, honours it, and lets it go.

In an era of music built for the scroll, “Seventeen” feels intentionally timeless. It invites you to slow down. To breathe. To feel something.
