Cork quartet The Guilteens are currently teeing up their debut EP, Heavy Letters. The latest piece of that puzzle is the new single ‘Born Evil’, which is packaged within an atmosphere of haunting guitar tones and meditative vocals.
Dark and delicate, it unfolds into this brooding anthem of restraint. Its emotions are intense, yet the dynamic seems almost fragile, devastated. The whole scene is like watching a lonely candle steadily burn out, but the band’s delivery is such that they balance the subtlety of that with the enormity of a fantastic alternative earworm.
The band comments, “Born Evil is one of our newer songs which originally started out on piano but then switched to guitar and came together quite quickly. We tracked it live, I think it’s the second take we did that we decided to keep”
Supporting the likes of Cardinals, Therapy Horse, and Jean Pack, The Guilteens have been making a name for themselves across Ireland and Europe, though they only debuted this year, their live reputation has risen fast. They’re sound is a moody potion of psych, shoegaze and alt-rock.
