With ‘Maybe Kind Of World’, Liz Reed delivers a tender, introspective single that captures the complexities of parenthood with warmth and honesty. Her first release on Bigger Beast Records, the track is marked by a gentle, laid-back sound that mirrors those fleeting moments of composure parents summon when watching their children take their first steps into independence.
Reed’s self-produced approach is evident in the intimacy of the arrangement. Soft acoustic textures, understated percussion, and her delicate, emotive vocals create a reflective space that balances vulnerability with quiet strength. The song resonates as both a personal meditation and a universal statement about love, guidance, and letting go.
We sit down with Liz to learn all about the new single, what makes her tick and much, much more here at Music Crowns!

This is your first release on Bigger Beast Records. How did that partnership come about, and how did it shape the recording process?
Bigger Beast Records is developing a community of artists that support each other in order to overcome the “bigger beast” of the music industry. When we work together and lift each other up (rather than seeing each other as rivals), we can help each other succeed. When I realized what Bigger Beast is about, I wanted in! I have always been a community-builder, so I am right at home here.
During the recording of “Maybe Kind of World,” other label artists offered help and advice in terms of instrumentation and the structure of the song. Stephen Peter Rodgers added bass guitar and an additional track of acoustic guitar, and Bryan Titus added strings. Bryan even helped round out the song by suggesting the title line be sung at the end of the chorus, so he deserves some production credit!
The song touches on the bittersweet experience of watching your children grow into independence. How do you translate such personal emotions into lyrics that can resonate universally?
Almost all of us know anxiety–we can all picture what it looks like and what that feels like in our bodies. I try to describe emotions with physical details that will create a picture for the listener. So in the song, “a kid-sized piece of my soul rolls out the door” or “she holds on tight to what she knows” take the place of those feelings of stress and worry. Because we’ve all been there, those images go straight to the heart.
‘Maybe Kind of World’ balances pride, fear and love. Was there a particular moment in your life that sparked the writing of this song?
Our daughter is a teen on the autism spectrum who just entered her freshman year of high school. She thrives on structure and consistency and has a tough time navigating even small changes in her routine. The word “maybe” is her nemesis! But despite sometimes crippling anxiety, she has a ton of perseverance and grit. As you describe, those three emotions of pride, fear and love always seem to surface at once as I watch her succeed, even in something as seemingly small as heading off to school.
What do you hope listeners–especially parents who might see themselves in your story–take away from ‘Maybe Kind of World’?
Letting go is hard, but none of us is alone–there are always folks somewhere who have experienced at least something similar to what you’re going through. Parenting is hard, life is hard–we need each other. So let’s lean on and support each other while we watch our children head out into the world (there’s that community-building theme again!).
Looking forward, is there an album or larger body of work on the horizon, or are you more focused on releasing singles right now?
Previously, I’ve only released full albums, so releasing a single is a new experience for me. I have several other songs waiting in the wings, all completely unrelated to each other or to this one, so I’m excited to see what happens if I release them all as singles…a new kind of compilation? We’ll see!
