North Carolina-based Vonswange has unveiled a new project entitled Short White and Lonesome. Tracks on the six-track feature dreamy alt-pop with a poetic, near cinematic edge and an absurd psychedelia that brings together the teasing singles of his opening musical gambit. ‘Undying Love’, ‘Saccharine Dream’ and ‘The Magician’ all laid the foundations for this project; their ideas were brought into focus on the EP.
Haziness shimmers with reverb-laced vocals with silky harmonies. It floats between synth-pop, indie and classic songwriting, the occasional lift of overdrive cutting through or a pulsing backbeat driving the emotions higher.
Amongst this charming and wilfully peculiar energy comes a sense of introspection, further adding to the personality of the Vonswange idea.
Rob Losier, the mastermind, shares, “A couple of years ago, when I was in a really dark place, I reconnected with my close friends, AJ and Kelly, and we started sharing ideas via text and voice memo. I began turning those ideas into songs and recording them for fun. This collaboration led to my first solo project, ‘Vonswange’, with our debut EP reflecting that friendship.”
Playful and reflective, challenged between light and dark, it’s heartfelt and inventive songwriting, and a fine debut EP from Vonswange.
